Earlier this year we had the job of redesigning The Guide for Carers for Hospice New Zealand. The Guide is provided as a resource to support people caring for a loved one with a terminal illness. The redesign had to be warm, supportive and uplifting without trivialising or being disrespectful to the subject matter.
Layering and texture are used throughout the book to evoke precious moments which could exist as part of memory, either from the past or in the future. The colours are deep and warm to evoke an atmosphere of strength and support.
The overall effect is a booklet which stimulates sensory communication and memory thereby connecting with the reader on an emotional and visceral level.
